All 6 of the UK's reptiles are kept at the New Forest Reptile Centre. However the large and well vegetated enclosures mean that the reptiles, particularly the more secretive Sand Lizard and Smooth Snake are always hard to spot. Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary
Fallow Deer were introduced to the UK during Norman times and a large population now lives in the New Forest. At Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary they are fed during the summer but are still wild and in the woodlands around the feeding station are quite shy. I saw this large stag at the end of August 2005. It was chasing away other stags and being quite territorial, probably preparing for the rut that takes place in the autumn.
