1966...Ten New additions to Sindy's collection, plus the arrival of Sindy's little sister Patch !
1966 Pedigree Dolls and Toys Limited. Sindy is a registered trademark of Pedigree Dolls And Toys Limited.
In 1966 Sindy and Paul were joined by Patch, Sindy's little sister, with her very own wardrobe of charming clothes. Sindy also aquired several new fashions, a new career, took up some new sports pass times, and a horse ! She even had her very own pop song written for her ! The play value of Sindy just grew and grew, as did her popularity, she was on the wish list of just about every child in the country and her name was a household name by now.
Bridesmaid
Bridesmaid
In 1966 Sindy was asked to be a bridesmaid again. This time her outit was in crisp white cotton broderie anglais, a plain knee skimming dress with the detail on the edges of the short sleeves, half way down the skirt, and at the hem. With this, Sindy wore a sky blue ribbon alice band, matching tie belt and white kitten heeled shoes. Sindy carried a pretty posy of flowers encased in white lace. In this picture I have accessorised with new royal blue ribbons. Sindy also wore a matching slip under her dress.
Happy Traveller
Happy Traveller
Sindy jetted off to France in this great play value outfit of grey wool felt coat with shiny round 'bead' buttons and real button holes, smart lapel and collar detail with red stitching picking these out as well as the patch pockets. Under her practical coat Sindy wore a red ribbed cotton jersey sweater with turtle neck and short sleeves and a short grey pleated cotton skirt with red waisband. She wore comfortable flat red shoes and carried her camera and travel bag, with a paris sticker on it. A great outfit and just enough detail to get little minds thinking up tons of play scenarios.
Air Hostess
Air Hostess
Sindy could still be a student nurse in 1966, but if she wanted a change of career she could become an air hostess for BOAC, British Overseas Airways Corporation, later to become British Airways. She wore the standard uniform at the time, designed by fashion designer, John Cavanagh. Th suit consisted of a blue gaberdine cotton jacket, box style with four shiny poppers and a cute little collar. Under this she wore a crisp white long sleeved cotton blouse. The skirt was slim cut, pencil style with a split at the back. Sindy wore her regulation hat and carried her flight bag and passanger manifest, on her feet she wore smart black kitten heeled shoes.
Right, John Cavanagh and his BOAC uniform design from the 60s.
Centre Court

Sindy took up two new sports in 1966, after hitting the slopes in Switzerland, ice skating and horse riding, she now took up tennis. She wore a cute little tennis dress in white cotton, with smart pleated skirt. Sindy's 's' was printed inside a blue shield on her left hip. Sindy wore matching white cotton panties and a headband fastened at the back of her neck with a white popper. She had short white nylon socks, white sneakers, and carried a tennis racket and plastic tube with three tennis balls in. Everything Sindy needed for a 'game, set and match'.
Bowling
Bowling
Another sport, this time the new craze to hit Britain from the USA, Bowling. Sindy and her friends just loved to go to the bowling alley on a Friday night. Sindy as always, looked a million dollars, wearing her smart bowling outfit consisting of a rich red brush cotton 'T' shirt with turtle neck, short sleeves and Sindy's 'S' pinted in a blue shield on the chest. Over this, Sindy wore a knitted cotton waistcoat. Sindy's Bermuda style shorts were in biege cotton chord, and she wore white nylon socks (the ones in the picture are home made cotton jersey) and white sneakers. She also had her black bowling ball, three pins, and a bottle of Coke to sip between strikes. Another high play value outfit.
Cosy Nights
Cosy Nights
The first of Sindy's new seperates additions was this snuggly warm dressing gown in red brush cotton flannel with white cotton lace trim to the collar, cuffs and hem, a simple tie belt fastened around her waist, this complimented Sindy's Frosty Nights pyjamas perfectly and ensured Sindy would always be warm and comfortable no matter how low the temperature dropped in the average British home of he 60s without the central heating we take for granted today.
Summer Walks
Summer Walks
In complete contrast to Sindy's toasty dressing gown for those long, cold winter months, came her neat shell pink linen summer skirt. Very smartly tailored with a pleat at the front 'for easy movement', and two false pocket flaps. A very simple yet stylish skirt perfect for summer picnics and long leisurley walks in the countryside.
Bra And Pants
Bra and Pants
A new undrwear set for Sindy this year, still in popular and fashionable 'wash and wear' nylon, this time though, in white. A very pretty set with white satin bra straps and panties trimmed with a lace overlay from the waistband. A lovely little set for the summer months.
Casual Moments
Casual Moments
the perfect name for Sindy's white casual ribbed cotton jersey top with short sleeves and turtle neck, a great seperate to wear with her skirts and jeans, or even under a coat or jacket.
Sindy's Bed
Sindy's Bed
following the success of Sindy's wardrobe came Sindy's 'Hollywood' style bed. This was a term used to describe a bed without a foot board at the bottom, but it certainly wouldn't have looked out of place in a Hollywood mansions bedroom, that's for sure. Sindy slept soundly on her soft foam mattress covered in floral print PVC or cotton. Here bed base was hard plastic with realistic moulded castors on each of the four legs. The headboard was hard white plastic with a beautiful gold inlay of cherubs embrasing a heart with the Sindy 'S' in the middle of it, so dreamy and romantic. To top it all was the beautiful bed linen, a top and bottom sheet in pure white cotton, a pillow in white cotton filled with foam, and a luxurious bedspread of white quilted satin with layers of frothy lemon edged lace spilling down to the floor. Bedtime must have taken on a wole new meaning as children rushed upstairs to dress Sindy in her pyjamas and tuck her into her beatiful bed.
Sindy's Horse
Sindy's Horse
Back in 1963 Sindy was given a smart tailored horse riding outfit, for the past three years children sat Sindy on the arm of the armchair, their pull along horse from toddler days, or even the family cat or dog ! Now at long last came Sindy's very own horse, and what a fine steed it was to, well worth the wait, and up to Pedigree's usual very high standard of detail. Sindy's horse was coverd in grey flock and had a beautiful flowing mane and tail in pure white, he had a brown saddle complete with shiny stirrups, and sported a red satin rossette. He really was a winner.
Sindy's Record
Sindy's Record
Sindy's very own 45 rpm record ! Side one tells the story of how Sindy meets 'The Doll Beats' , her favourite group, and how they write a song for their number one fan. Side two is The Dolly Beats singing Sindy's song, based on the first launch record but a much catchier tune, with 'pinky and Perky' style backing singers and a fashionable 'Mersey beat' sound to the soundtrack. A great party record for children, and a tune you just can't stop humming and singing all day long once you've heard it !
Sindy's sister Patch
Sindy's little sister Patch was introduced in 1966, cute as a button and with a whole wardrobe of clothes for any occaision. Together, with Sindy and Paul, they made up 'The Sindy Set'. Click on Patch below to go straight to 'The wonderful World Of Patch'...
