1968 Sindy gets a makeover
1968 Pedigree Dolls and Toys Limited. Sindy is a registered trademark of Pedigree Dolls And Toys Limited.
In 1968 we were in for a real surprise, and a real treat to !
Sindy left her home town, and moved to London to become a 'fashion girl' living the fashionable life in the city. She had a completely new wardrobe of way out, up to the minute fashions and some new scensetters to, it was a great year. Here's how the new style book introduced her....

'Just look what's happened to Sindy. Longer, lovelier hair you can style yourself.
'Real' eyelashes. And a twisty waist to make her more active, more fun.
She has the most 'with it' clothes of all-her new outfits swing her right into the latest fashions.
New Look Sindy was sold in no less than four different outfits, you chose the one you liked best, her hair colour was also available in different colours, brunette, blond and titian. Here we see Sindy wearing her 'Fashion Girl' cotton mini dress with matching mauve kitten heeled shoes. To the right is Sindy wearing 'Ice Skater' the same outfit the first Sindy had in her first released eight outfits, entitled..'Skating Girl'. Sindy was alo available in a beach outfit entitled 'Beach-time girl', and a beauty queen outfit entitled 'Miss Beautiful'. This Sindy is an original 1968 Sindy but she has had a re-root, in other words she has new hair, but in the same texture and style as an original.
Sindy's brand new, way out fashion outfits for 1968...
Town And Country
Town and Country

A great way to start off Sindy's new style book, this phsycadelic print multi purpose trouser and skirt suit in vivid shades of bright orange and green really set the fashion stakes at an all time high. All tailored in a good quality cotton, Sindy wore her sleevless turtle neck top under the smart jacket and teamed them up with the pants and flat green shoes for country walks, or with the mini and knee length boots for shopping trips in the Kings Road. I don't have the green shoes yet, but I live in hope !
Career Girl
Career Girl

Sindy is studying for a career and what better dress to wear to college than this natty little mini dress in bright pink with daring orange polka dots all over it. Finished off with a white high button down collar and cuffed long sleeves, worn with black kitten heeled shoes. Sindy really knows how to look a million dollars wherever she goes.
Housework
Housework

Try as I might, I can't get New Look Sindy to look 'right' in this outfit, it suits our 'old' home counties girl far better. And what a great play value outfit it is ! Sindy wears a rich orange shirt with collar detail and cuff detail on the short sleeves, two patch pockets on the breast are in contrasting orange and white gingham check and match Sindy's head scarf and frilly edged apron, with orange patch pockets to tie in with the shirt, so well thought out. Sindy also wears fawn cotton drill pants and flat brown sneakers.
She has all the equipment she needs to make the house like sparkling like new, a torpedo style vacuum cleaner with lead, plug, hose, tube, and floor attatchmet. A red bucket, brown broom, real feather duster on a wooden stick and a 'tin' of Ajax scouring powder. An excellent set and one very hard to find all intact.
Rainy Day
Rainy Day

Sindy's all new outfit for rainy day wear was this funky three piece in welded PVC. A short mac in pillar box red with bright yellow patch pockets and front finishing matched her sou'wester hat and groovy bermuda shorts. Red knee high boots finished the outfit off and saw that Sindy caught everyones eye as she skipped down a rainy Oxford Street.
Trouser Suit
Trouser Suit

Trouser suits were all the fashion in the 60s, all new for woman to wear ! So Sindy had to have a smart and trendy trouser suit to follow the fashion to. It was actually Tuffin and Foale that were partly responsable for the new fashion of trouser suits for women.
Sindy's suit was in mustard chord with collar and lapel detail and four black poppers on the double breasted box cut jacket, the pants had a slight flare and skimmed Sindy's groovy new black Chelsea boots. Sindy carried a cotton backed textured back PVC handbag with trendy integral handle and front pocket , far out Sindy ! The green top in the picture was no supplied with the trouser suit.
Cordon Bleu
Cordon Bleu

Fanny Cradock, Graham Kerr...they don't mean anything to todays kids, but back in the 60's they were both household names, both top tv 'chefs'.
Sindy caught the cookery bug and took to her kitchen in her professional looking 'Cordon Bleu' set. A thick cotton apron, just like the real thing, in navy blue with white stripes and a large, deep pocket at the front, matching oven gloves and a 'wooden' spoon, spatula, saucepan and frying pan. Sindy's guests loved the Graham Kerr meal she prepared of 'crepes suzzette', but were'nt so keen on the Fanny Cradock recipie of blue boiled eggs stuffed with mayonaise !
Sail Away
Sail Away

Ahoy there me hearties ! 'Tis Cap'n Sindy here, all set to take to the high sea's for a corking adventure filled with pirates, treasure chests...Oh..and Patch and Paul of course !,,
Sindy's fun sailing outfit is made out of bright yellow PVC, it came in either a textured finish, or a smooth and softer PVC. Sindy wears a cosy jacket with collar, large flap top front pocket and tie chord string neck. Her pants and sou'wester hat matches, and she carries a sailing bag made in cotton with her name printed on the side, a white life ring with blue stripes, again with her name printed on, and a burgee with the Sindy 'S' on. A burgee is the little triangular flag flown at the back of boats. An unusual, but fun outfit.
White Winter
White Winter

Sindy' most luxurious fashion of the decade was this stunning fake fur coat in pure snow white plush fur, lined in white satin. Worn with a cossack style hat and knee high boots with fur trim around the tops. Sindy followed in the fashion footsteps of the rich and famous, including model Patti Boyd, who married Beatle, George Harrison, wearing a trendy fur coat.
Carefree Camping
Carefree Camping

Sindy loves to wake up to the sound of the birds singing all around her, and breathing in the fresh country air when she goes camping in her bright red windcheater jacket with white cotton collar, zip front and black elasticated waist and cuffs. She wears cute little white cotton shorts with black stitch detail, a white cotton baseball style cap, and white sneakers. She takes with her a blue and yellow real inflatable lilo and   baby blue plastic picnic hamper with a set of yellow crockery inside.
Come Dancing
Come Dancing

Sindy's most beautiful ballgown ever ! What a year this was for quality and fashion ! Sindy really is the belle of the ball in her stunning white satin strapless ballgown hemmed in pretty white lace and overlaid with white organza spinkled with large pale blue polka dots. The top is trimmed with an overhang of royal blue satin and Sindy has a long rectangular wrap to match this. Sindy also wears a pretty pearl necklace and white kitten heeled shoes. The necklace in the picture is a reproduction based on the original.
Fur Fashion
Fur Fashion

More fashionable fur, this time as a luxurious collar on Sindy's black wool coat with cosy fur hat to match. Sindy wears black kitten heeled shoes and carries a red umbrella to protect all that lovely fur in a downpour. I've accessorised with a pair of tan stockings for added luxury.
Leather Looker
Leather Looker

A brand new look for one of Sindy's favourite seperates, Leather looker was now tailored into a black PVC 'A' line skirt with white stitch detail at the hem. I've teamed it up with the blouse from Sindy's air hostess outfit for a smart but casual look.
Smock Dress
Smock Dress

For geneal relaxing, spring and autumn walks, and meeting up with friends for a coffee, Sindy wears her pretty green mini smock dress in cotton needlcord with red stitch smocking, patch pocket and elasticated 'cuffs'. A great little seperate to add to Sindy's wardrobe.
Bell Bottoms
Bell Bottoms

..'When Sindy gives a record party for her friends, she dons her snazzy white bell-bottomed jeans'.....lovely crisp white cotton denim with red stitch detail printed down the legs and as back pocket detail, great to mix and match with any of Sindy's tops and blouses.
Reefer Jacket
Reefer Jacket

Th reefer jacket was one of the big fashion must haves of the 60s, so Sindy had one added to her wradrobe of top fashion clothes. Made in navy blue wool felt, with collar, lapel, pocket flap details, and shiney brass poppers to fasten. A very jaunty and smart jacket for cool summer evenings walking along the prom.
Turtle Neck Sweater
Turtle Neck Sweater

Another fashion 'must have' in any girl about towns wardrobe was a turtle neck sweater, great for wearing under jackets and with skirts, jeans and trousers. Sindy's was in a groovy shade of green ribbed cotton jersey.
Denim Underwear
Denim Underwear

A brand new set of up to date underwear for Sindy, this time in mauve denim ! With a pretty little slip in mauve and white gingham check. Even Sindy's underwear was top of the fashion charts !
Cocktail Time
Cocktail Time

To go to really swinging jazz and cocktial parties with Paul, Sindy wore her fabulous blue cocktail dress trimmed with black lace. This, in my opinion, is one of the most unusual and beautiful coloured outfits in Sindy's entire wardrobe. A stunningly simple dress that really is stylish as well as fashionable.
Coloured Stockings
Coloured Stockings

To add extra fashion fun to Sindy's smalls she had two new pairs of stockings, in beautiful lace, very with it at the time, a black pair and a white pair to go with just about any outfit she chose.
Casual Frock
Casual Frock

..'Sindy is a hit at every party'...said the style book of this gorgeous silk dress in deep mauve with deep fuchsia satin hem and belt. A great party dress, proving that 'less is more' when it comes to styling.
Two Tone Frock
Two Tone Frock

Another FAB frock for Sindy, in bright pink linen and shocking orange satin...'She can wear it to parties and dances that really swing. Also to meet friends at the coffee bar'....said the style book, and what a hit Sindy would be in this 'mondrian' styled dress lightly based on the Pierre Cardin dresses of the time. I've teamed it up with a pair of her latest white lace stockings.
Highland Lass
Highland Lass
Sindy's perfect little kilt style skirt in rich red tartan check with it's own miniature brass saftey pin, this was a really well made item, finely finished, and looked great with 'Casual Moments' or the sweater from Sindy's Winter Holiday outfit. A great skirt to wear for a New Years Eve disk party, or a vist to the highlands.
Hat, Bag and Shoes
Hat, Bag and Shoes

Some new idea's for 1968 were accessorey packs. The first one was this natty little trio of outfit finishers, a fun cotton sun hat in turquoise, royal blue and mustard,   pair of black kitten heeled shoes and a vinyl handbag in white with a navy blue strap and gold buckle detail. The bag in the picture is a home made reproduction of the original.
Pack A
Pack A

A FAB 'party Pack' consisting of everthing Sindy needed to make the party go with a real swing. A record player and disk, two bottles of coke, a pair of white kitten heeled shoes, a pearl and gold bead necklace and a pop poster, a great accessorey with great play value.
Sindy's New 'Scenesetters' for 1968....
Sindy's WashDay Set
Sindy's Wasday set contained everything Sindy needed for those Monday morning washdays. After Sindy had washed all her clothes and linen in her sink (no washing machine yet for Sindy, she'd have to wait until the 80s for one ! poor thing) . She could take it outside in her luandry basket and peg it all out with her colourful plastic pegs on her yellow washing line, when it was all dry she bought it in and ironed it on her pink ironing board with her gleaming chrome iron, and then hung it all to air on her clothes horse.
Beautiful detail, the iron has a black plastic handle and control knob, and real 'heavy' metal iron part, it's so realstic, one of Sindy's finest scenesetter pieces. The ironing board is made of very sturdy plastic, ironing boards around this time were more often than not made of wood, so I'm guessing this one as supposed to represent wood to. The cover is real thick cotton, just like the 'grown up' version, with elastc underneath to hold it to the board.
The tiny plastic clothes pegs in bright 'gay' colours were very new and fashionable at the time, these are perfect in every detail. The clothes line is 'plastic' with a hoop at each end to attatch to a hook in the outside wall of Sindy's house, or maybe a nearby tree or washing line post. Again, the detail is spot on, I remember seeing clothes lines like this, wrapped in the same way for sale in hardwear stores at the time.
For washing in her sink, Sindy was given the choice of either Lux soap flakes in a box ( the box was actually empty) or a real mini bar of Lux soap, you would have only got the soap, or the soap flake box in your set, not both.
Once again the detail was fantastic, the soap flake box was an actual copy of the real thing with script and pictures on every side. As you can see, Sindy would have no problm washing her delicate lacy 'Undie World' set, and her nylons in these mild suds.
The back of the Lux soap bar proudly announced, 'Pure Mild Lux Soap is the beauty care of 9 out of 10 film stars'. Lucky Sindy to have such luxury soap to wash her clothes in !
Beautifuly packaged, this must have been an absolute delight for any child to open up. I am missing the wash basket, if anyone has a 'spare' one they wish to sell on, pleae let me know. my email address is johnny0clarke@gmail.com
Sindy's Dessing Table and Stool
Sindy's Dressing Table And Stool came in this lovely box, which is a later edition to the first box which was dark pink with line drawings on it.
The pictures on the back of the box were great ! I bet many a child hounded their Mum and Dad for the rest of Sindy's fabulous scenesetters after seeing these ! What play value and fun could be had for hours on end.
The side of the box, with the product code number.
Sindy's Dressing Table

Sindy's bedroom was completed in 1968 with three new additions to make it the most stylish and comfortable dolls bedroom a child could ever dream of owning. Sindy's dressing table matched her bed and wardrobe, in white plastic with gold details, it had a large mirror so Sindy could easily see herself for make up application and hairstyling. Two large drawers held Sindy's smalls and she has a matching stool to sit on. Accessories were so pretty, a white brush, mirror and comb, the first two having the Sindy' 'S' in a shield, printed on in 'gold', a box of Kleenex tissues, two tiny cosmetic pots with black lids, one white, one red, a gold face powder pot with matching lid and white powder puff with baby blue ribbon handle, and a clear blue plastic vase filled with plastic flowers, these varied greatly, as did the top of the stool. A wonderful addition to Sindy's fantastic play value.
Sindy's Bedside Table
Sindy's Bedside Table

Another fantastic addition in matcing white with gold details and a real working lamp, shaded in beautiful white lace with pink edges and topped with a pink satin ribbon and bow. With the bedside table came a breakfast tray wih folding legs and a complete breakfast service of white plate, cup and saucer, and silver coffee pot, milk jug and sugar bowl, knife, fork, spoon and tea spoon (These were plain, the Kings pattern silverware came much later)And if that wasn't enough, Sindy even had a 'silver' framed black and white picture of Paul in perfect miniature detail.
Sindy's Chest Of Drawers
One of the early boxes Sindy's Chest Of Drawers came in, just beautiful pictures.
Later scenesetters than the dressing table box, Sindy now has a hair dryer and FAB red jeep !
The side of the box with the product code on.
Sindy's Chest Of Drawers

Once again, a matching bedroom item, with lovely little legs and fancy side details all finished in gold, two spacious drawers held Sindy's clothes, and a blue vase of pretty plastic flowers was also supplied, one of my favourites, I have three!
Sindy's Bath
This is the second edition bath box, the first being a line drawing rather than photo. Just look at that gorgeous minty centre part Sindy.
The back of the box with play situations featuring Sindy Scenesetters, and Sindy's friends.
Sindy's Bath

Oh what fun, a real working bath for Sindy to soak in. Pedigree really thought about the play value in every scenesetter they produced. Sindy's bath could be filled with water, drained through the plug hole, with real miniature plug on   chain, then filled again with the working tap, the accessories for a perfect bath night were a towel, face cloth, and blue toilet bag with blue brush, comb and mirror, Sindy also had her very own Sindy shampoo, mine is still sealed after all these years and I remember the one we had as kids smelling really lovely, but I darn't open this one !
Sindy's Camping Set
The gorgeous line drawings of early Sindy packaging were beautiful. This is the first edition box.
The end of the box lid (no drawings on the back of the box, the box base being just plain grey cardboard) with product code on.
Sindy's Camping Set

Sindy's camping set complimented her Carefree camping outfit. She had her very own tent, which packed flat and fixed together with long plastic tent poles, these were covered in a deep orange cotton tent with braid ties at the entrance. Sindy had a pack flat camping bed with royal blue cotton top, on this, Sindy laid her snug cotton quilted sleeping bag in baby blue with navy interior and real working zip, an absolutley wonderful play set for any child.
The tent had a five piece frame, two triangular end pieces and three poles hat joined them together at the sides and top. The top pole threaded through a sleeve on the inside of the tent pitch.
The tent was long enough for Sindy to lay inside if she wished, although it seems she prefered, by the line drawing on the box lid, to sleep in the open air !
The finley detailed cotton padded /quilted sleeping bag with real zip fastening, to keep Sindy toasty warm even on the coldst night.
Sindy's Wardrobe Trunk
Sindy's Wardrobe Trunk

Rather a strange one this, although I really love it, I always think of these trunks as 'last seen on the Titanic' rather than in the late 1960's, certainly not very good for modern jet travel, that's for sure ! But never the less a great play item in royal blue plastic with 'brass' painted details, a top drawer for smalls, two shelves and a hanging rail complete with orange or red Sindy coat hangers. The trunk also came with a 'Silver Wings' Holiday brochure, a Summery Days dress in the new pattern, and a pair of white sneakers. A sheet of stickers was also provided to stick various holiday destinations on the outside of the trunk.
Sindy's Wardrobe
Sindy' Wardrobe

Sindy's Wardrobe got a makeover this year, gone was the groovy deep pink body , wood grain effect doors and pink Sindy 'S's...in came a more classic look with smooth doors embossed with gold detail and the Sindy 'S' in hearts on each door, very romantic and matched perfectly with her bed. The interior didn't chang at all, apart from the fact that it was now white rather than pink.
Sindy and patch get new friends as well !!

Coming soon......
