Here Comes The Bride
Sindy proves that 'always the Bridesmaid, never the bride', is just a myth...
1963-1985. Pedigree Dolls and Toys Limited. Sindy is a registered trademark of Pedigree Dolls And Toys Limited.
In 1964 Sindy became Bridesmaid to her friend, she wore a beautiful floor length lemon silk dress with white organza overlay and matching bolero style jacket, the groom gave her a beautiful 'gold' and pearl necklace as a gift, she looked stunning. In 1966 she was bridesmaid again, this time in crisp white broderie anglais cut at knee length. 1971 saw yet another friends wedding , requiring yet another bridesmaids outfit, a peasent style floor length dress in a 'Laura Ashley' type pink floral cotton with matching head scarf and trimmings of white lace and baby blue ribbon. 1973's bridesmaids dress was almost identical fabric and pattern but in blue, this time with long sleeves and a lace alice band head dress. By now all Sindy's friends were married off and it was time for her to take the plunge to, Paul may have disapeared 7 years previous to her first Wedding Dress, but we pressume that's who she's going to marry anyway. So, in 1974 Sindy got her very first Wedding dress, and it didn't disapoint.
In a soft nylon 'satin' this simply styled dress was a knockout. A fitted bodice was topped with a yoke of white lace and simple polo style collar, the sleeves puffed down to the elbows and then became long and slender to the wrist, 'leg 'of mutton' style, the skirt billowed from the bodice in soft, shimmering, gentle gathers right down to the pretty white lace and box pleat trim that 'dusted' the floor as she walked down the aisle.Sindy wore a very plain veil of white net trimmed only with white cotton lace flowers in an Alice band style around her hair, and she carried a pretty posy of pink, blue, red, white and yellow plastic flowers surounded by white lace with a long white satin ribbon bow flowing from it. Paul was sure to agree he had definatly made the right choice when he first set eye's on his beautiful new bride.
In 1976 Pedigree came up with another first, the first Sindy to be sold in a wedding dress, 'Bride'. This was also available in the same year as a seperate outfit, entitled ' Wedding Bells'. A very simple outfit that uses the fabric, cut and trimmings to great effect. Pure white satin flowed down from a tight bodice, held tight by a white satin ribbon bow tied at the waist at the back of Sindy, down to an 'A' line 'skirt', just below knee length was a row of pleated organza and pretty lace topped this, this was repeated at the hem of the floor length skirt. More pleated organza was used for the stand up collar and soft cuffs. Sindy wore a matching hat which was padded , and trimmed with a ruffle of white lace and pink flowers on the brim. A very Edwardian style outfit, and very smart. Sindy also carried a posy of flowers to match those on her hat.

This Sindy is the one sold in this outfit, she is a blode version of the 'Funtime' Sindy issued that year, she was the first Sindy to have short hair sine the first Sindy was introduced back in 63. The 76 Funtime was issued in strawberry blonde, brunette and   sandy blonde, as far as I know, the pure blonde was only used as the bride Sindy.
Sindy was a 'Beautiful Bride' in 1977, wearing this gorgeous creation with a white satin under dress, topped by the most delicate nylon lace over dress with a very pretty pattern and lots of lace, the sleeves were long and bell shaped and the addition of lace just below the bust gave it an almost Empire/Edwardian look. The viel was extremely generous, full length with lots of gathers streaming from a   cute white satin pill box hat, unusual, but very effective. I've wanted this particular outfit for years, so I'm really happy to finally have it in my collection. This also came with a bouquet of deep pink flowers.
Sindy was 'Blushing Bride' in 1978, and once again Pedigree pulled out all the stops to give us another stunning bridal creation. This was also released in the USA as 'Lets Get Married'. My thanks to Lin, who's picture of her Gayle in this outfit is so pretty I just had to do the same, she just looks so gorgeous in it. This year Sindy's wedding dress was a crisp white nylon/polyester, the bodice finishing just below the bust and flowing once again into a floor length 'A' line skirt . An unusual and very pretty feature to the dress was the fact that it looked like an over dress ending in a'U' shape over the A   line skirt. beautiful white lace trimmed the V neck, 3/4 sleeves and both hems, it also frothed from the edges of the full length veil of white organza, making a pretty 'crown' effct around   Sindy's head. Sindy carried a pink posy with this.
1979 saw Sindy in 'White Wedding', very similar in some ways to the previous years dress in that the bodice finished just below the bust and the skirt was 'A' line with a layered effect, this time created in the reverse of the previous years style, an 'upside down' U . The dress was in a gorgeous shiny white satin trimmed with white lace at the hem, 'overlay' detail and cuffs of the full length sleeves. The collar was a simple 'madarin' style and the front of the bodice was trimmed with a line of tiny white 'pearls' from the neck to the end of the bodice. This years dress had a completley different type of veil than what we were all used to seeing with a wedding dress, the designers really came up with a great fashion idea here, a full length hooded 'coat' of delicate white nylon lace in the prettiest flower design, trimmed on all the edges with yet more lace, absolutley beautiful. Sindy carried a red posy and a 'silver' horse shoe with this outfit.
In 1980, Sindy thought it was a 'Nice day for a 'white Wedding',...Pedigree really went to town on this wedding creation. A dress to do them, and Sindy, very proud indeed.
Sindy wore a white nylon satin under dress, 'A' line, and sleevless, good enough to wear as a sleek ballgown on it's own ! Over this Sindy wore a frothy creation of very pretty snow white nylon lace, the bodice was trimmed with a yoke of frilly white lace and had a little 'mandarin' style 'collar', the sleeves were puffed and full length, elasticated at the wrists and frothing out to end in more white lace trimming. Sindy wore a white satin ribbon at the waist, tied in a bow, and from this, flowed her three teir, floor length 'A' line 'skirt', each gathered layer being seperated by white nylon 'braiding'. A most unusual head dress was created this year, a round frill of elasticated white lace, like a crown. And flowing from the back, a net veil. I think it looks very pretty on this 1976 Funtime Sindy, who has had a boil perm especially for her big day. Sindy's bouquet was of deep fuchsia daisy type flowers in a sort of linen fabric, these were surrounded by a round frill of white nylon lace and two pink satin ribbons flowed to the floor. Sindy's shoes were plain white courts. A really beautiful and quite hard to find outfit.
In 1981 Sindy was simply a 'Bride', but there was nothing simple about her beautiful dress. Sindy wore a floor length, 'A' line, sleevless white satin underdress, and over this, a gorgeous creation in fine flower covered net, with a scouped 'V' neck edged in yummy white lace, with more of the same around the floor length hem and gathered wrist full length sleeves. Sindy's veil was also in fine net, with a satin stitched oval shape 'dot' design sprinkled all over and edged at the 'hem' in matching lace to the dress. She carried a simply posy of red cotton flowers with satin streaming ribbons in red and white, and also a 'silver' lucky horse shoe. Sindy's shoes were white tassle / crown front court shoes. A really lovely wedding dress.
1982 and Sindy was at her 'Wedding Day' in this beautiful creation, so much detail and love has gone into it. A snow white satin under dress with white ribbon shoulder straps, and the top finished in frothy lace, good enough to wear as an evening gown, was topped with a sheer net gown sprinkled with little polka dots. Gathers at the waist and cuffs, and near the hem, finished off with more froths of lace and an elegant understated, very 1920's head dress, this titain 1980's Sindy looks absolutley stunning, very much the mix of Victorian, and 20's bride.
Sindy followed in the footsteps of our very own fairy tale Princess, Princess Diana of Wales, by wearing this gorgeous pure white silk taffeta billowing wedding gown, entitled 'Beautiful Bride'...and that's exactly what Sindy did look like in 1983, trimmed with lace at he neckline and elbow length puff sleeves, trimmed with white satin bows very much like Diana's wedding dress by the Emanuels.... more white satin at the waist, in the form of a tie belt, tied in a bow at the back and streaming down Sindy's full skirt, which was finished with white lace at the hem. Sindys veil was fine net edged in more white lace and held in place with elastic joined to a sparkling diamonte headband. Her bouquet was probably the biggest and most over the top Sindy ever had, beautiful rich sky blue satin flower flowed from one large flower in the same colour and fabric, a white ribbon flowed from the bouquet, Sindy wore white court shoes. This outfit was bought mint in box.
In 1984 Sindy wore another fairy tale wedding dress entitled 'Wedding Bells'..One of Sindy most gorgeous wedding dresses in pure white satin, sprinkled with shiny roses and finished off in sweetheart lace on the neckline, 'cuffs', hem and even the joined net petticoat underneath ! The bodice was fitted, with wonderful billowing puff sleeves and full skirt, at her waist Sindy wore a white satin ribbon, tied at the back in a bow flowing down her dress. Her veil was fine white net trimmed with lace and flowed from a headpiece of diamonte's, Sindy held a bouquet of deep burgundy roses sitting on a large deep green leaf and two trailing burgundy ribbon ´steamers´. On her feet she wore white court shoes. This particular outfit was mint in box. I've no idea what Sindy this is, I won her in a lot and her hair is stunning, really long and curly, but she's not a Masquerade, anyone any idea's ?
Sindy wore another very much Fairy Tale princess Diana style wedding gown in 1985, named 'Here Comes The Bride' ..the namesake of this section. And what a beautiful gown this was, in pure white satin, the bodice was fitted with a 'V' neck edged in delicate white lace. with a white satin ribbon bow at the 'V'. Ample puff sleeves billowed from the bodice and were elasticated at the elbow and finished in volumous flutes of more white lace. A white satin ribbon was tied tightly around the waist and finished in a bow that trailed down the back of the dress. The skirt puffed out from the waist in two layers. the first ending half way down and ruched at the front, edged in lace and finished at the top of the ruche with another white satin ribbon bow. The bottom skirt was floor length and finished at the hem in a generous wide band of white lace. Sindy wore a wide brimmed hat to match, with ribbon hat band and bow trim, and a pink flower to add a delicate and pretty finish to it. She carried a pink bouquet and a silver horse shoe on a white satin ribbon. She wore white court shoes.
A Bridesmaid at heart..........
Sindy's first bridesmaid dress was issued in 1964.   Sindy is bridesmaid to one of her friends, and what a wonderful outfit her friend has chosen for Sindy. A lemon satin strapless dress is overlaid with white organza, with a hint of a shimmer. Over this Sindy wears a bolero jacket with elbow length bell sleeves, white satin ribbon trim, and bow tie white satin ribbon flowing down the back of the dress. Under her dress Sindy wears a pale lemon net slip made in two layers, to help puff out her skirt. Sindy carries a posy of flowes and wears an Alice band of flowers in her hair (neither of these are the originals but are a close match) . Sindy wears white kitten heeled shoes, and the bridegroom has given Sindy a very special wedding 'Thank you' gift of a 'gold' and pearl necklace. Another stunning outfit for Sindy.
In 1966 Sindy was asked to be a bridesmaid again. This time her outit was in crisp white cotton broderie anglais, a plain knee skimming dress with the detail on the edges of the short sleeves, half way down the skirt, and at the hem. With this, Sindy wore a sky blue ribbon alice band, matching tie belt and white kitten heeled shoes. Sindy carried a pretty posy of flowers encased in white lace. In this picture I have accessorised with new royal blue ribbons. Sindy also wore a matching slip under her dress.
In 1971 Sindy wore a simple 'country' style bridesmaid outfit to her friends wedding. In a lovely soft cotton, and delicate shades of pink, blue and yellow, this very pretty flower sprigged Laura Ashley style dress and matching headscarf was the height of fashion. Finished with white lace edging on the scarf, 'waisband' and short puff sleeves, and running in a wide band near the hem, with a pale blue satin ribbon tied in a large bow at the front running around the middle. Just gorgeous !
Sindy kept a country look in 1973, but this time it was with more than just a touch of the Elizabethan look about it. Perfect for a red head Lovely Lively ! Again, tailored in lovely soft cotton, this time in pale blue with flowers of white and various shades of blue. The 'lace' was in fact a sort of bobble edged cotton, very fine and delicate, really lovely. It trimmed the bottom of the full length fluted sleeves, the mandarin type 'collar', down the front of the bodice, and three layers towards the bottom of the full length gathered skirt. It also trimmed both edges of the matching alice band, which was made in the same fabric as Sindy's dress. A white satin bow trimmed the top layer of 'lace' near the bottom of the skirt, and one was also found at the waist, mine is missing !. Sindy wore white daisy strap sandals to complete this unusual, but very beautiful and well tailored outfit.
In 1976 Sindy was wearing this pretty 'rustic' style bridesmaid outfit to her friends wedding. Made in cornflower blue and white cotton gingham with puff sleeves and elasticated cuffs to form pretty ruffles edged in white lace. The 'bodice' finished below the hips and then teired down into two full, gathered layers, these and the hem all finished in white lace. To complete Sindy's 'Milkmaid' look, she wore a mop cap in the same materia, also edgd in white lace. A very unusual but just gorgeous edition to Sindy's bridesmaid collection. And the name of this outfit, 'Beautiful Bridesmaid' , what else !
Sindy was still getting invites to be a bridesmaid in 1985, here she is wearing 'Maid Of Honour', and what a beautiful outfit it is, she really does look like a fair maiden in this pretty sugared almond pink satin gown, gently flowing to the floor with intricate pink and white lace finishing off the hem.The same lace is used to finish off the elasticated, off the shoulder, puff sleeves.. and the top of the tight 'corseted' effect bodice. An absolutley stunning creation.
