Sindy's obsession with keeping young and fit....
1963-1985. Pedigree Dolls and Toys Limited. Sindy is a registered trademark of Pedigree Dolls And Toys Limited.
Throughout the years Sindy has always tried to maintain her slim figure with various exercise routines and sports. Back in the 60's she took up tennis, skiing, Ice skating and went swimming, as well as going bowling, riding and dancing. Then in the 70's came jogging and ballet ! This caried though to the 80's where she also included the gym and sunbeds. It's no wonder she still looks as good today as when she was first released over 40 years ago !......Here's a tribute to Sindy's keep fit routines over the years.........
This beautiful Sindy is a second edition 1975 Active Ballerina, she has the 'double cup' waist, two joints rather than the one, and posing ankles, which the first edition in 1974 didn't have. Also, her first ballet slippers had 'silk' cord ties as seen here. She really is a lovely Sindy to add to any collection with her hard head and high colour face, so pretty.
In 1977 Sindy was issued in a new colour tutu, this time in candy pink with heart detail white lace hem, her ballet slippers were now also pink and had plastic 'ties' rather than cord. She still retained her gorgeous glossy hair, swept back into a sort of bun. Her waist now had a single 'cup' rather than the double of earlier actives. This is another beautiful Sindy with high colour, she would certainly steel the show at any performance, that's for sure !
1985's Ballerina was, in my opinion, the most beautiful of all Sindy's ballet outfits. Here it is, worn by a Marx USA Sindy. And doesn't she look absolutley stunning. The tutu was an all in one combo with the skirt, in white stretch nylon with delicate ribbon shoulder straps. A pale pink rose bud rested on the waist at Sindy's left hand side. The skirt consisted of three layers of white net to puff it out, topped by an ultra fine net overskirt which was pleated into the tiniest peats and then edged in silver braid followed by delicate white lace around the hem. The puff 'sleeves' were seperate items, made in the most delicate fine net and elasticated at both ends to form cut little puffs at the top of Sindy's arms. Sindy's tights were the standard thick white nylon, and her ballet slippers were also the standard plastic tie variety. A gobsmackingly beautiful outfit, every collection should have this.
In 1984 Pedigree introduced 'Stardance' Sindy, and what a beauty she was. She had long flowing masses of curls in either brunette or blonde, tied each side into pig tails. I've undone Sindy's pig tails here as I love the hair so much worn down like this. Her outfit consisted of matching leggings and head band (A must in the 80's !) in deep purple stretch cotton. Over her leggings she wore a bright leotard of rainbow colours, pink, gold, orange, blue, purple and green, her leggings matched the leotard and were another must have exercise fashion accesorey made popular by 'Fame', the TV series. These were also in stretch cotton. On her feet she wore pink sneakers. Unusually, Sindy was issued with a standard Sindy body rather than an active one ? Still a beautiful Sindy to have in a collection and one of my favourites.
Another huge favourite of mine is 1985's 'Shaping Up Sindy'. What a beauty with her rich face colours and extra thick long blonde hair, plaited at the sides and held with a deep pink stretch nylon headband. Sindy's leggings where in the same material, over these she wore a stretch cotton leotard in the same colour, under which was a yellow nylon/satin Tee-shirt. A neat yellow pvc belt with brass buckle cinched in Sindy's already tiny waist and the outfit was finished off with ultra fashionable leg warmers in yellow cotton, and dainty flat pink 'slippers' with moulded bows on the front. Sindy also had a pretty towel of baby pink, yellow and white stripes with luxurious white fringing at both ends, and a cute gym bag to carry it in, which was oval, yellow with deep pink piping around the edges, which was also used for the handle, and printed on the front was a big Sindy 'S'. This Sindy had a fully active body.
Beautiful outfits for Sindy to look great in while she trims and tones....
In 1971 Sindy was issued with a brand new Skating outfit entitled 'Skater'...This was a real quality outfit..made in holly berry red velvet trimmed with snow white fake fur on the cuffs, and hem of the   circular joined skirt of the dress. Thick white tights kept Sindy's legs warm, and red skates matched her dress. Sindy accessorised with a beautiful set of pom pom hat and scarf, and mittens in thick stretch nylon striped in snow white, holly berry red and navy blue, poms poms were in rich royal blue.I chose June to wear this particular outfit as she has the prettiest elf like face which suits the pixie style hat, just too cute eh.
1981's 'Fun Suit' must be one of Sindy's most 'wacky' outfit's as far as colour and pattern go. A bright yolk yellow with black, white and red stripes on a stretch nylon fabric, this funky outfit was great for jogging, and the gym alike. Snug legging style pants were worn with a cute front fastening top with hood, and Sindy's sneakers were yellow to match. I love this outfit, such fun, and perfect on Juliette, my standard, blonde Sindy.
Still hitting the slopes in the 80's Sindy kept up her passion for skiing with her new 'Alpine Sports' outfit. A life time away from her original 60's outfit, this was however, just like the 60's outfit, right up to date as far as current fashion's went.To keep Sindy snug on the piste, she wore an all in one white nylon leggings top combination, and over this she wore a rich red quilted ski jacket with navy ribbed cuffs, hem, collar and front fastening . Navy and white stripes on the sleeves and breast gave Sindy a really sporty look, and on her feet she wore red ski boots 'clipped' into black skis, to match her ski poles, with red chevrons on, to add to the sporty look.
Not only did Sindy ski in 1983, but she jogged and played tennis as well ! Worn her by Marianne, my gorgeous titian Beach Party Sindy, and Flower, my titian standard Sindy, their hair colour compliments the oufits perfectly. Sindy's track suit was in stretch jersey cotton in a lovely delicate baby blue with gold yoke and collar, the jacket is missing the tie pull waist in this one. The tennis outfit was in crisp, white cotton, a thinner cotton for the blouse, which sported perfect collar detail and yellow ribbon stripe on each arm. The skirt, in a more robust cotton, had a neat pleat at the front and the same yellow ribbon stripe detail, this time near the hem. Sindy had a pair of white sneakers to match both outfits. This set also came with a tennis racket and tennis balls.
Also in 1983 came 'Keeping Fit'. A simple stretch terry toweling track suit in a lovely shade a turquoise blue with white ric-rac binding detail along the arm seams, both 'cuffs', and the hems on the pants were elasticatd. Sindy wore a matching headband, and bright yellow trainers. This is a great example of the style of track suit people were wearing at that time.
Jogging was a favourite of Sindy's to and 1984's 'Jog Along' was the perfect outfit for a good brisk jog. A stretch cotton terry tracksuit in sunshine yellow with royal blue hem, cuff, collar and arm seam detail was worn with blue sneakers. The front of the jacket had a white panel in the same material and matched Sindys 'must have' head band. This outfit looks stunning on this blonde standard Sindy, she looks fit for a marathon.....
But 'Jog Along' wasn't the only outfit Sindy would get in 1984, in her designer range she was given 'Feeling Fit', and just wearing these two outfits would make you feel better ! In this two outfit pack Sindy could practice aerobics or ballet in her navy stretch nylon tights, and baby pink stretch nylon leotard, leggings and matching headband, on her feet she wore white ballet slippers. For winter jogging she wore an all in one thick stretch cotton jersey oufit in grey marl with navy stripes and ribbed navy cuffs and hems, she wore a matching belt around her waist and white sneakers on her feet, she even had a stop watch on a string, to hand around her neck and keep check of her pace. A great double set with tons and tons of play value.
This Sindy, named 'Lady', looks the perfect lady in her 1985 'High Energy' outfit, the name maybe inspired by Fame, the popular TV series, and the song 'High Energy' by 'The Kids From Fame' , which did very well in the UK charts. More stretch terry towelling was used in the pants and sweatshirt, with baby pink ribbed cuffs, collar and hem. Over this, Lady wears a trendy body warmer in a very fashionable material of the time, Fleece, in a lovely lemon yellow, which also matched her snuggly leggings. On her feet she wore pink sneakers, and her head band this time, was in lemon, mint and baby pink wool. This colour combination   is so unusual and yet works so well, a very daring yet beautiful outfit.
1980's 'Jogger' was a lovely bright pillar box red jogging suit in stretch nylon jersey with bright canary yellow binded edges on the jacket hem, 'collar', front and cuffs. The bottoms were also trimmed down the sides and at the hems, Sindy wore matchig bright yellow trainers with this outfit, a really fun and simple outfi.
Keep fit Scenesetters....
Sindy's 'Keeping Fit' set was introduced in 1984. The perfect accompaniment for her many keep fit outfit's, although it did also come with one. The set included various equipment to keep Sindy trim, toned and tanned.
The cute blue exercise bike with sunshine yellow wheel and saddle and 'chrome' pedals was just the thing to give Sindy a good cardiovascular workout and trim and tone her shapely legs.
A waist trimmer did just that, making sure Sindy would always fit into her stunning ball gowns and turn heads at any party she attended.
Pedigree certainly loved giving us working models and with this set we got a 'working' sun bed ! Sunbeds were THE thing to have back in the 80's, so Sindy just had to be up there with the fashion leaders as always. This was a great model with moulded control panel and ribbed plastic tanning base to represent the tanning tubes, under this were two tourch bulbs which lit up when the switch at the base of the sunbed was switched on.A mirrored finish on the lid reflected the light back down onto Sindy's back. Sindy also had the very important goggles to protect her eye's from the ultra violet rays.
A set of dumbells to tone Sindys arms was also included, as was a neat little gym outfit consisting of rich red shorts with a yellow stripe down each side, a stretchy nylon white vest, yellow sneakers and a white towelling sweat band. Sindy also had two towels, a small hand towel and a large towel with poppers at one end so it could be wrapped around her and held securley in place. Both towels were in soft white towelling with navy blue finishing tape at the ends.
The complete set had imense play value as it could accomadate four Sindy's all at the same time, great fun for you little gang, or friends could come round for a Sindy 'spa' day !
Winter Sports...
Winter Sports was released in 1978, a small box with just a few contents, but with, as usual, great play value. It consisted of a sledge with little built in wheels underneath, so that it could' 'slide' along the floor just like on the snow. There were a pair of Ski's, unusually, these were joined together, they also had little wheels underneath for realistic play indoors, and of course there were a pair of ski poles to go with the ski's. A pair of soft rubber ski boots in red, also a quilted ski jacket in navy blue with ribbed detail in red on collar, cuffs and hem, and white stripe down each arm, the cutest bit of the jacket was Sindy's 'S' emblem on the left breast side. Sindy also had a pair of sunglasses in bright orange. This was a great little set and sure to surprise with it's contents for such a small gift.
