Setting the Scene.........
Home Sweet Home with Sindy..
The initial marketing idea for Sindy was simple, sell one Sindy, and more sales will follow as her owner collects her many outfits.   It was fairly early on that Pedigree must have also thought that Sindy sales could be increased even more by the provision of   'Scensetters', more substantial items than those already included with outfits such as Dream Date, Housework and Carefree camping. And so it was that Sindy aquired a horse, car, wardrobe, bed etc etc...All imensly popular then, and still today with collectors.
Here's a look at Sindy's amazingly detailed, life like accessories that made her house a home throughout the years.
1963-1985. Pedigree Dolls and Toys Limited. Sindy is a registered trademark of Pedigree Dolls And Toys Limited.
Housework
1968s Housework was issued as a set of full outfit and cleaning supplies.
Following in the footsteps of 1968's 'Housework' , the 1977-1979 'Housework' was a scensetter rather than an outfit. And what attention to detail, children could replicate in miniature everything Mum did about the house with this wonderful set. Sindy had a broom to sweep the floors, and then followed with bucket and sqeezy mop (non working) to get them squeaky clean. For the odd 'spill' she had a dustpan and brush. Her kitchen waste was disposed of in her very modern swing top bin and her carpets were vacuumed with an upright cleaner with attatchments for her stairs and soft furnishings. While busy about the house Sindy wore a pretty yolk yellow apron with a royal blue front covered in the prettiest red and white daisy type flowers. There are variations of this apron.
Washday
Another Scensesetter that followed in the footsteps of an old favourite was the 1979-1978 'Washday', an update of 'Sindy's Washday Set'   also from 1968. Another wonderful set for hours and hours of play. Sindy could hang her washing out on her very own rotary washing line, which worked just like the real life version, spinning around in the breeze and folding up after use. Tiny plastic pegs were provided also. Once dry Sindy collected her laundry in her washing basket and pressed them all neatly with her ironing board and iron. She even had a plastic coated apron to wear while doing her chores, which, incidentaly, matched 'Lovely Livley' Sindy's skirt !There were also variations in this apron.
1968s Washday set, which ran through until 1972,just missing the clothes basket.
Sindy's Vacuum Cleaner 1984
Sindy's 1984 Vacuum Cleaner was about as realisted as you could get ! It actually sucked up dust ! The modern cylinder cleaner had a tiny motor inside and real 'electric' cord and plug that plugged into a stool which housed the batteries It had a long clear plastic tube, perhaps so you could watch the dust being sucked up ? and a carpet and crevice nosel. The dust collected in a clear dust tank at the front of the vacuum cleaner, which could be removed and emptied. This must have provided children with hours of amusment and is one of the most highly detailed Sindy accessories ever released.
Sindy's Eastham E-Line Kitchen 1976
One of the most magnificent and most collectable Sindy Scensetters has to be her 1976-1982 Eastham E-Line kitchen, a complete kitchen with all the accessories needed for Sindy to cook, wash up and store her food etc..All units were in a sunny deep yellow with white tops. Stream line white handles topped the doors and drawers. This kitchen was bang up to date, and I'm sure there were many parents who wished their own kitchen could be as stylish as Sindy's !
The Eastham E-Line sink unit had a simulated stainless steel sink of the latest design, set into the white worktop, served by a mono mixer tap (non working) there was a plug hole and tiny black plug and a chain, and the washing up water from the yellow washing up bowl could be drained away to a tank underneath in the cupboard, which then slid out like a drawer for emptying. To help Sindy get her dishes sparkling she was also given washing up liqiud, scouring powder, a dish brush and a cloth. A really lovely set and so well thought out.
The Eastham E-Line base unit was again the same base but with a plain counter top and the addition of a bank of drawers on the left hand side, all fully opening.
The Eastham E-Line Hob unit used the same base cupboard but this time with a shiny simulater chrome hob set into the worktop. Realistic black hot plates and   turnable controls added to the play value. Along with this came a full compliment of pots and pans, everything Sindy would require to cook the perfect gourmet meal, or just chips and beans ! A large and medium saucepan with lid, a milk pan, a pressure cooker, frying pan and kettle, all in a lovely Royal blue with white lids.
Sindy's Oven unit was again bang up to date, a 'built in' style with cupboards above and below for all her baking trays etc...Again the detail was brilliant, a shiny control panel above the seperate grill showed off the Eastham name, three control dials and an oven timer. The clear grill door dropped down to allow Sindy access to her red grill pan with shiny drip tray insert. Below this was the main oven with removable shelf and red 'Pyrex' style dish with clear lid. Even close up these wonderful pieces of Sindy furniture look so life like.
Above the base units/s you could place the Eastham E-Line wall cupboard, for this you would need Sindys house, as the cupboard had a lip at the back at the top which 'clipped' over the top of the room divider wall. Even though this was the smallest of the kitchen units it still had great play value, inside was a shelf with three storage canisters on it, all with removeable lids. And the best bit of all, there was a switch under the cupboard that switched on counter top lighting by means of a batterey being stored in the back of the unit and small tourch bulb under the unit. You just couldn't get any more life like than that ! Again, you could buy as many of these as you needed to make up your luxury Sindy kitchen.
And....................Once you had the whole set, this is what it would look like.....
A magnificent kitchen with every modern convienience, all in a cheerful deep yellow with hygenic white counter tops and stream line handles..Banks of cupboard and drawers to store everything Sindy will ever need in the kitchen. And plenty of counter space for cake and pastry making. Shiny appliances and usefull accessories make Sindy's kitchen the most detailed dolls kitchen ever...Sindy loves her eye level grill and oven, and friends love her coffee mornings, complete with freshly baked cakes !
Heres a real life kitchen from the same period, you can see how similar Sindy's Eastham kitchen was to those fashiobale at the time !
Sindy's Kitchen Stools 1977
Pedigree gave Sindy two flat pack kitchen stools in 1977. In hard plastic, the legs were white, and tops were a lovely deep cornflower blue, a nice contrast to the sunny yellow of her Eastham kitchen. And very handy for sitting at the counter top and sharing a coffee and a natter with her friends.
Sindy's USA Fridge/Freezer
In the USA Sindy was also given a kitchen, the same as the Eastham E-Line kitchen but minus the base and wall unit, the colour was also different, more of a mustard shade. Although two units weren't included, Sindy did get a fridge/Freezer, something she would have to wait until the 80's for in the UK...
This was a real American Fridge/Freezer, with narrow full length freezer section and huge fridge section to take Sindy's very American food and drink...
Inside there were clear shelves two drawers and six shelves in each door...The food items were very realistic and quite different (as was the fridge) to UK Sindy's. Pizza, Pepsi and Chocolate milk were USA Sindy's favouite 'tipples', while she feasted on steaks, pepperoni Pizza and frozen green beans. These are only a few items, there are lots more, which I don't have. Notice the ice tray and tiny cubes of 'ice', I'm amazed that this was still intact and complete after years of play and storage.
Sindy's Sideboard
First introduced in 1971 this went though only minor changes up until the introduction of the China Cabinet in 1979. It was relseased with a plain white top, a white wood grain effect top, and a dark wood grain effect top, as far as I know they were released in that order. This was a really beuatiful piece of furniture for Sindy's home, in Georgian style 'bow' front with 'gold' details and 6 legs. It came with a host of accessories for maximum play value, I've pictured them below, and on the top of the sideboard,   but as this came to me used, and I have collected the accessories, I can't be 100% sure if they are all there, or indeed, if there are too many.
Sindy's second issue Dining Table...
Sindy's dining table appeared in the early 70's, a white washed effect card topped top to look like wood, with four chairs upholstered in red velvet, the second edition is below...
It's exactly the same design as the first edition set but with deep blue velvet upholstered chairs and a card topped dark wood effect table top. 1976-1978. It came flat packed (Table , not chairs) and included everything Sindy would need to set the table for a corker of a dinner party....As usual Pedigree really treated us with all the detail and play value, four full place settings including, soup spoon, starter/pudding knife and fork, tea spoon, desert spoon, main course knife and fork, dinner plate, side plate, wine flute and cocktail glass/desert dish. Also two candleabra's, a full set of condaments, a coffee pot, milk jug and sugar bowl, and the cutest of all, a butter dish with a pat of removeable 'butter' in it.
Sindy's Hostess Trolly 1981
The ultimate in 70's entertainment, no suburban dinner party would have been complete without the 'famous' hostess trolly (although Sindy's didn't actually appear until 1981). And believe it or not, you can still buy the real life version, still in the brown and fake wood detail in shops today ! Another master piece from Pedigree, with great attention to detail and absolutley everything Sindy would require for the perfect dinner party. This really must have delighted it's owners with all it's wonderful accessories, in fact, it still delights me now !
The trolley came in a nice compact box, but what a lot you got once you opened all the little bags of goodies inside it !The trolly's smoked plastic lids hinged back to provide extra space for serving up the food, and the front flap dropped down to provide an extra shelf to...For their meal Sindy's cooks up a treat with Potatoes, peas, cauliflower, carrots and chicken drumsticks.4 portions of each are provided, the veg are kept warm in the Pyrex style serving dishes and the drumsticks sit on a serving platter with pretty flower and leaf design boder in fashionable brown...Full place settings also came with the trolly, 4 of everthing, dinner plate, side plate, tea spooon, soup spoon,desert/starter knife and fork, Dinner knife and fork, and desert spoon, all in shiny 'Kings' pattern.
Sindy's China Cabinet 1979
In 1979 Sindy was given a brand new piece of furniture for her dining room, her beautiful China Cabinet in cream, Georgian style. It had two deep opening drawer and two opening cupobords at the base, and at the top it had two fixed panels of honeycombe patterned 'glass' (perspex) with an opening door of clear 'glass' in the middle. This came to me mint in box, so the accessories shown are the ones that came with this item. It's a really lovely peice and would also suit Sindy's living room.
Sindy's Dining Table 1982
In 1982 Sindy traded in her dark wood effect top dining table with blue velvet chairs and bought this elegant 'Georgian' style dining table and matching chairs in cream with green seats. The styling was really gorgeous, with fret work backed chairs, and cabriol legs ending in claw feet.
The usual set of dining accessories were incuded, silver service including coffee pot, milk jug, sugar box, set of condiments, single condiment, butter dish and butter, four dinner knives and forks, soup spoons and desert spoons. Two candlabra's, four wine flutes and four cocktail/desert glasses (not actually 100% sure if the cocktail/desert glasses were included, as I have made this set up from scratch). This year though, Sindy's plates, both dinner and side, were patterned, a pretty burgundy floral type design graced the edges of the white dishes. Sindy's new China cabinet, matched this set and together created a very imposing dining room.
Sindy's Sofa's and arm chairs etc...
Sindy's first Sofa and Arm Chair were in white vinyl, the armchair being introduced around 1969 and the sofa a bit later.
In 1976 Pedigree kept the original designs but introduced them in a new colour, a rich red with a 'distressed' leather look to it.
By 1980 it was time for a change again, and so Sindy aquired a brand new design and colour, deep buttoned back for both sofa and arm chair, with a pretty ruffled valance around the bottoms and finished in rich cream coloured vinyl.
The colour was changed to rich cream in 1981 to match Sindy's new Arm Chair and Sofa
This blue rocker was also introduced in 1976.
Here are all three sofa's and arm chairs in order from left to right. White suite, 1969-1975.   Red suite from 1976-1978. Cream suit from 1980-
Sindys Hi-Fi 1976
Sindy's Hi-Fi in 1976-1978 was a look-a-like of Radiograms in peoples homes at that time, although stereo Hi-Fi's were much more fashionable, it wasn't unusual to still see these around. In white plastic with a blue'ish tinged clear perspex hinged lid, 'speaker' grills and Sindy's name on the front, it was one of the best scenesetters ever released.   The play value was great, even now, years later, I hear of collectors who have these in their Sindy house and listen to the radio on it while 'playing' with their collections ! The radio is switched on by either turning a control knob, putting in a cassette tape or moving the arm onto the record, such a clever idea. The other control knobs are used for volume control and tuning in stations. The Hi-Fi came with three cassette tapes in pink, blue and yellow. Three records in sleeves, a pair of headphones for Sindy, and an earplug for a child to listen to radio Luxemburg late at night while mum and dad were sleeping.
Sindy's Writing Bureau 1982
In 1982 you and Sindy could sit down and write letters of thanks to all those aunts and uncles that gave you Christmas presents, with Sindy's new writing bureau. Another high play value scensetter. In cream plastic it came in two parts, a bureau, and an ottaman style seat which came apart in three sections, lid, and two 'trays' with divisions for storage. The bureau front dropped down to make a desk area, inside were 'pigion' holes for papers and envelopes etc..In the opening cupborad underneath were 'pockets' on each door, for more storage, and a drawer. BUT..for real play value and added fun, the bureau also had a 'secret' draw below it ! with a 'flick' of a 'latch' at the back of the bureau, the drawer popped open beneath the first drawer ! What fun ! As usual Pedigree didn't let us down with the accessories, I don't have them all here, but most are included, which are a 'Holly Hobby' style eraser and note book, Diary, set of coloured pencils, pencil sharpener, clear plastic rule, clip board and envelopes.
Sindy's Wall Unit 1984
1984 saw Sindy with a brand new living room feature, her wall unit, or room divider, depending on how you wished to use it. In cream plastic with open shelves and one opening central cupboard in the base. It was quite cleverly styled, as it would suit traditional or modern decorating schemes. I think that this item alone in a child Christmas stocking would be enough to keep them occupied for the rest of Christmas with all it's wonderful accessories, never again would Sindy have a dull moment   ! A red telephone with lift off hand piece and slot so that Sindy could hold it, various books, some moulded in 'sets', in plastic, and others loose, in paper with real pages. A lovely tall house plant in 'teracotta' pot with matching 'saucer', Three Sindy records in sleeves, a blue 'glass' (perspex) jug, bowl and two tumblers, a tray of oranges, apples and banana's, three little red pots in different sizes and a lovely set of real brass 'cups' with matching vase.
Sindy's Fireplace 1984
Sindy aquired a fireplace in 1984. In Adam style with a red 'brick' hearth. Up until then she made do with an 'electric' fire, which was a cardboard cut out for her first four roomed home. This new fireplace was meant to represent a real fire though, as it has glowing logs, powered by a battery at the back, a coal bucket and companion set of stand, shovel, poker and tongs. On the mantle shelf sat a handsome carriage clock in gold effect with roman numeral numbers. This was a really beautiful scene setter, and although it was fairly 'small' with few accessories, the play value as always, was great !
Sindy's Gown Rail 1980
In 1980 Sindy recieved a brand new item of furniture for her bedroom, her 'Gown Rail'. Made in the same plastic as the rest of the bedroom range and featuring the 'gold' outlined 'S' Sindy heart. With so many wonderful fashions, boots and shoes for Sindy, this rail must have come in very handy for all those that had filled Sindy's wardrobe to the brim. The gown rail had an open 'compartment' at the bottom, which was handy for Sindy's boots. Above this was the rail, for her clothes. One end of the rail was a mirror and drawer, great for Sindy's smalls, and at the other end was a shoe rack, the same one as was found in her wardrobe. The whole thing glided around Sindy's bedroom on four little grey wheels. As far as I am aware, the rail came with a pair of white and a pair of brown knee high boots, and a red dress with white stitch detail, which was in fact the 'Funtime Sindy' dress from 1978. A great new introduction in the Sindy range, and another high play value item.
Sindy's Vanity Unit 1982
Sindy's Bedroom went all Victorian in 1982, one of the new sets introduced, was her Vanity Unit. A really pretty set consisting of a full length oval mirror on an ornate stand, which was able to swivel to allow Sindy the best angle to view her outfit, along with this came a wash stand with opening drawer, and a pretty shaped back with a cut out heart and raised flower design. Standing on the top was a jug and bowl, also with raised flower design on them, in true Victorian style, all items were in creamy plastic. It was very refreshing to see Sindy going for an antique look in her home, and it reflected the style at the time, which was for very 'Laura Ashley' style 'country' homes.
Sindy's Brass Bed 1984
1984 was a great year for scenesetters, and just to prove it, Sindy was given a brand new bedroom suite ! Her bed was like somehting out of a fairy tale, yet very life like. A brass effect delicate headboard was flanked by two bedside tables in the palest pink with brass knobs on the drawers and little cubby holes underneath for Sindy's books and magazines etc..The bedding was absolutley gorgeous, soft cotton, covered in tiny pink and lilac flowers, with froths of creamy lace covered the valance, pillow and snuggly quilt. On her bedside tables Sindy had a modern radio alarm clock in white plastic, and a white framed picture of her horse. Another wonderful bed for our favourite girl to have the sweetest dreams in.
Sindy's Wardrobe 1984
The finishing touch to Sindy's new 1984 bedroom was her wardrobe. In the same palest pink as the rest of her bedroom, the doors were so delicate with their opaque doors of baby pink with pretty, almost art nouveau 'fret' work detail. Inside, Pedigree had pared down the design, gone were the door mirror, shoe racks, belt bar etc...this was just a simple shelf, clothes rail and set of drawers, never mind though, it's styling more than made up for the lack of 'accessories' inside. Another beautiful piece of furniture to grace Sindys home.
Sindy's Dressing Table 1984
To compliment Sindy's bed, she had a beautiful new dressing table in the same palest pink plastic with 'brass' drawer knobs. The top three drawers didn't open, but the four deep bottom drawers made up for that, with tons of space for Sindy's smalls ! The detail in the mirror was lovely, just like the real thing, it came in three sections, the middle was fixed and the sides could be hinged backwards and fowards to allow Sindy to check out every angle of her hairdo. The ottoman style seat was the same as the one used for Sindys Writing Bureau, but this time in the palest pink, with baby pink top. The accessories were a baby pink vase with white flowers in it, and baby pink brush, comb, hand mirror and powder container and puff lid. Also included were two cosmetic bottles. A really beautiful piece of furniture, and sure to make Sindy feel like a real Princess.
Sindy's Orange Bathroom 1975
In the early 70's Sindy's pink and Blue bath was replaced with an orange one 1975-1980, this did not have working taps or an open plug hole for the water to drain away, but pedigree made up for this by also introducing a hand basin, toilet, a re vamp of the original pink hairdryer, to match the rest of the Orange bathroom, and a walk in shower, which really worked. Acessories for these items ranged from hair curlers, towels, bath mats, face clothes, brushes, combs and mirrors, even a bath rack. Making Sindy's new bathroom a great Sindy room where her owners could pamper her with bubble baths, invigorating showers or a new hair style.
Sindy's Orange bath, with shelf at the back of the taps for all her lotions and potions, bath rack for her face cloth and soap, tiny little plug on a chain and set of bath linen includuing bath mat, bath towel and face cloth, all in super soft fashionable brown towelling.
Sindy's hand basin was mounted on a 'wall' with mirror for Sindy to check her make up. There was a shelf under the mirror to store Sindy's brush, comb and mirror set, powder pot and lotions. The basin was in a very trendy soft triangle design with soap well on the left and taps on the right, again with tiny little plug on a chain. An integral towel rail held Sindy's hand towel and the basin aslo came with a face cloth and pedestal mat.
Sindy's toilet was in the same colour, with brown seat and lid, and flush. Both seat and lid could hinge open or close down, so Paul was Ok if he needed to spend a penny ! The toilet came with a pedestal mat, very popular back in the 70's.
The next real working model in Sindy's new bathroom was Sindy's shower. 1978-1982. Oh the hours of fun children must have had with this, and the mess they must have made ! The shower consisted of a brown base which housed the tiny pump mechanism, a drain hole in the shower floor allowed the water to go though to the pump and recirculate through the shower head. The side 'walls' of the shower were in orange with a tile design moulded into the plastic. A recessed shelf held Sindy's sponge. The shower head was in brown and had a bracket at the back to fix it into the wall, it could be taken down if Sindy wished to use it 'hand held', the shower hose was clear plastic tubing. The doors both swung open and has a frosted design, one had a brown towel rail for Sindy's Bath Towel, this could be placed on either door as it just clipped over the edge.A bath mat was also supplied.
Sindy's salon hood hair dryer ( 1976-1982 ) was the same model as her earlier deep pink one, just bought up to date with a colour change. This was a great play value item as it really blew air ! Batteries were stored under the built in seat and when the button at the back was pressed on, a tiny fan in the hood blew air down onto Sindy's hair. The hood was hinged so that it could be raised back to allow Sindy so settle herself comfortably on the chair, then it could be lowered over her set hair. The hair dryer came with a set of brown hair rollers.
The basic bathroom pieces fitted comfortably into Sindy early 70's house, the pine panelled walls and orange and brown colour scheme all being the height of fashion at the time.
With the two working models Sindy's bathroom became a bit cramped to say the least, it is interesting to note that Sindy never did have a bathroom big enough to fit all her bathroom furniture in ?
Sindy's Beauty Salon 1984
An amazing scenesetter was released in 1984, Sindy's Beauty Salon was full of play value, with no less than 3 working items and lots of wonderful accessories to make it just like working in a real salon ! Unusually, Pedigree opted for pink, usually reserved for 'you know who', across the Atlantic ! But I guess in this case, it did work. The unit consisted of shelves and a large mirror, with working lights either side of it, there was a wash basin with real working shower, which operated by pushing down the square pump button next to it, the 'well's either side of the basin could hold accessories, not pictured here, but available with this set, was a set of hair rollers. Also included was a reclining chair, a pink, crisp cotton robe covered in white polka dots, to protect Sindy's outfit. A huge, soft, fluffy terry towel in pale creamy yellow with pale pink detailing, a pink brush, comb and hand mirror, two cosmetic bottles and a hand held hair dryer that actually plugged into the unit and blew air out ! The motor is tiny, a real work of miniature detailing.   Every Sindy in the land must have had several new hairdo's that Christmas !
Fill the basin with water and then let it drain away, then pump the square button at the side of the basin to work the shower head.
The neat robe, and real working hair dryer plugged into it's own socket on the Salon unit.
Sindy's 'Set In Style' hair dressing set 1977
A lovely little addition toSindy's bedroom was her hairdressing set, 'Set In Style', introduced in 1977-1979. It consisted of a deep yolk yellow stretch terry towel for Sindy to dry her hair with, a brush comb and hand mirror to style Sindy's hair with, and a set of 'Carmen' 'heated' rollers, which were very authentic in their blue base with clear blue perspex lid, they even had a tiny plug at the end of a wire ! Clips were also included to hold the rollers in place, just like the real thing ! It's no wonder that many Sindy's now have wooly hair from all that over styling Sindy's many accessories provided us with. But what great fun eh !... Once the hair was rolled up on the rollers the flat end of the clips was pushed inside the barrel of the roller and the curved end would sit over the rolled hair, holding it in place, the little sucker at the end of the plug added to the play value by allowing it to be 'plugged' onto Sindy's wall.
Sindy's Portable hairdryer 1980
I can't find the exact date of release for this set, it was available as seen, and also as a set with the heated rollers, brush, comb and mirror set.   1980. This type of hairdryer actually came out ( ..in real life..) at the end of the 60's ( I remember the adverts for it on TV ) so this was not that up to date, but never the less, it was great fun, and exeptionally close in detail to the real thing. The little blue carry case contained everything Sindy would need to give herself a knockout hairdo. The portable hairdryer was carried on a strap around her shoulder, the 'tube' plugged into the top of it and then into the cap, which covered Sindy's rollers, thus drying the hair and setting it on her rollers. All make believe of course, this wasn't a working product. Also included were a styling comb and brush which also could be plugged onto the end of the tube from the hairdryer. Once Sindy had set her hair, she could check it out in the large mirror set into the lid of the case.
Sindy's Pool Set 1974
Sindy' Pool Set was one of Pedigree's master pieces when it came to high play value. Much overlooked, if not known about by collectors, this set is such fun ! Made in soft vinyl, and flat packed in a small, 'book' sized box for easy storage, and yep...taking on holiday with you ! It boasted ten items as well as the huge pool, which measured 19inches ( 48.2 cm) in diametre by 5 1/2 (13.9) inches deep. Scaled to our size, it would give us a pool of roughly 9 1/2 feet ( 2.89 mtrs) wide by 2 foot 9 inches ( 88cms) deep.
The pool had bright orange inflatable sides, and a white base with a very groovy print of flowers on. It holds two bucket of water ! Seen here with just one in !
The accessories were FAB !! All inflatable, they included a sunlounger which could also float on the pool, two 'rubber' rings, two lilo's, two trendy chairs, which again, could also float on the pool, a beach ball...and..two towels in white with a red and blue stripe going through them.
A really great set, and one that I can't recommend enough to any collector.
Sindy's Garden Furniture 1980
In 1980 Sindy was given a set of Garden Furntiure for her patio. She could relax in the comfortable plastic armchairs, which had cushion pads of foam, with covers in a very summerey deep orange with a fine white stripe. Her patio table was round, and sat in a yellow base with the Sindy 'S' moulded on it, she shaded herself from the mid day sun with her bright yellow and deep orange parassol, and sipped Sindy wine which she poured from her own estate wine bottle, or for a less boozy afternoon she could sip lemonade poured from her bright orange jug into one of the two high ball plastic glasses supplied with the set. When   the mid day sun had passed Sindy could rub in some sun lotion, pop on her orange sunglasses, and maybe have a stroll around the garden and take some lovely pictures of her prize flowers with her very realistic zoom lense SLR camera.
Sunlounger 1977
1977 saw Sindy relaxing in the sun with 'Sunlounger'. Another of those small boxes with lots of fun and play value inside. Sindy had a rich, deep orange fluffy towel, easily big enough for her to stretch out on , a yellow and royal blue parasol on a Sindy emblemed base protected her once again from the mid day sun, this time the parasol was at a tilted angle on it's pole, which was of chrome rather than plastic. A very realistc cool box with strap and removable lid housed a deep orange jug and two high ball plastic glasses for refreshing drinks, and Sindy wore orange sunglasses and a sunny yellow swimsuit with scoop back, she even had her own sun lotion. This was a really brilliant little set.
Sindy's Motorcycle 1982
The last time Sindy was given a motorcycle was way back in 1968, when she was given Paul's Vespa scooter after Pedigree 'retired' him off to 'dolly heaven'. By 1982 Sindy was more than ready to take up motorcycling again, even though, once again, this was more a scooter than a motor bike.

This was an extremley popular Sindy item, and you can see why, you could have hours of fun with it, the detail, was as usual for Pedigree, excellent. In sunny, bright yellow with a white front basket, seat and back box, black rubber tyres on grey 'metal' look wheels, a side mirror, drop down stand, rubber grip handle bars and a host of stickers to add even more realism to her nippy little 'runaround'. The scooter even came with a complete outfit for Sindy to wear, which consisted of an all in one suit in red nylon with two popper front fastening, collar and lapels and a neat yellow stripe running over the yoke. Sneakers matched the yellow stripe, and on her head she wore a hard plastic helmet in white with a red stripe running from front to back.Sindy could store her helmet in the closable box at the back of the scooter. The back wheel had a mechanism that made a realistic sort of 'motor' sound when the wheel was turned, a nice touch to an already highly detailed piece. The front basket was removable and had a handle, just like the baskets in the supermarket. And Sindy's suit was trendy enough to pop around the shop in while filling her basket with groceries.
Sindy's Barbeque 1979
In 1979 Pedigree introduced Sindy's barbeque, now not only could she produce the most delicious meals in her Eastham kitchen, but she could also extend her cooking skills to the garden as well. This was a very life like scenesetter in red and black with a card insert to represent glowing coals.

.The accessories included two yellow plates, a yellow tray with handles at either end, a pepper grinder, a bottle of sauce, a carving knife and fork ( I haven't got the fork, so open to offers on that !) tongs, a tasty chicken on a spit, and a navy blue 'butchers'apron and oven gloves in authentic thick cotton with white stripe running though. Everything Sindy would need for the perfect barbeque, a lovely little set and much sought after by collectors today.
Sindy's Picnic Set 1979
Also out in 79 was Sindy's Picnic Set. She certainly was embracing the great outdoors that year ! A small , simple set, but as always with Pedigree, it seems the smaller the set, the greater the play value, and this was no exception. Sindy's picnic hamper was in yellow with her name moulded on the lid, it had two cute little handles at either end, and snapped shut with moulded 'locks'. Inside it held place settings for two, two red plates and cups. White knives, Forks and Spoons. And a white thermos flask with removable red lid, one of the red cups could also be stored on top of the Thermos flask.I can just see children all over the country, playing in the garden on a summers day with Sindy and her picnic set, little bits of real salad and bread crumbs on the pates and orange squash in the thermos...and of course, tons and tons of their wonderful imagination.
