1966 Pedigree Dolls and Toys Limited. Sindy is a registered trademark of Pedigree Dolls And Toys Limited.
Whether it's keeping dry or warm, or both, Sindy has the perfect coat. She's be given some pretty desirable coats thoughout her life and here's the complete collection of all Sindy's coats from 1963-85
Sindy started with her fashionable PVC 'Shopping In The Rain', and everyones favourite.. 'Duffle Coat', but it wasn't long before she added the smart wool 'Happy Traveller', 'Winter Sport', that trendy ski anorak, and the more luxurious 'Fur Fashion' and 'Winter White', as well as the ultra trendy 'Rainy Days'...Then onto the 70s she went, on a coat quest to leave all other dolls well and truley in the hall closet ! All these coats (Above line drawings) can be found in the 60s pages.
'Winter Coat' was a very fashionable warm felt wool mini coat with FAB white stitch detail on the large collar, bodice, patch pocket and 'cuffs'. An attatched cotton backed PVC belt did up at the waist. To keep Sindy toasty warm, she also wore thick stretch nylon white tights, and a cotton headscarf in bright red with a stylised flower design in royal blue with green leaves. Sindy wore her red kitten heels for a very stylish and trendy look. A really great fashion coat which was well thought out. This actual coat, believe it or not, is reproduction by Helen Carter of Repro Sindy Boutique, the rest of the outfit is vintage.
New 'Centre Part' Sindy was released in several outfits this year, one was 'Fun Furs', a lovely fake fur mini coat with matching buzby hat. This is a reproduction I made myself and is true to the original in style and fur. The coat came in quite a few varitons of colour, from honey through to white, this years style book showed it with black kitten heels, but subsequent pictures are seen with white ankle boots. I must say that I'm dead pleased with my effort ! And Sindy does look very glamourous in it !!
In 1971 Sindy wore 'Midi Coat', an up to date coat at the new fashionable midi length, tailored in soft torquoise green wool type material, this trench style coat featured pvc front detail in mustard, with a matching belt with 'gold' buckle. The coat did up with two shiny white poppers, and Sindy wore chunky yellow boots for an added splash of colour.
Here's one you'll find hard to find on Ebay ! 'Midi Winter' in this gorgeous wool tweed. Shown in the 1971 style book, but never actualy released ! This is an authentic reproduction by Helen Carter of Sindy Repro boutique, click on link below to go to Helen's store and buy you very own 'rare' midi winter'. Made in wool tweed with lashings of nylon fur trim and a fur muff to match, Sindy is right bang up to date in the fashion steaks with this gorgeous winter coat, you can just see her sitting on sleigh, riding through snow covered forests..
A pretty little Pixie is what Sindy reminds me of in her 'shiny Shopper' outfit, it's just one of her cutest outfits ever produced for her. Sindy wore a shiny bright red texturd cotton back PVC mini coat with collar and lapels, two patch pockets and four white poppers. Sindy's boxy shoulder bag with white popper flap matched, and so did her red chunky knee high boots. Sindy accessorised with royal blue stretch cotton jersey tights and a matching pixie style hat, Sindy's scarf was in a swirly pattern of red, blue, yellow and green on white shiny nylon. A really beautiful outfit that suits this Trendy Girl a treat. Please note that the coat and boots are original, the rest of the outfit is reproduction by Helen Carter of Sindy Retro Boutique. A testement to her high standard of reproducing outfits right down to the finest detail.
Straight into 1972 with an outfit that is literally 'Red Hot', yep, that's the name of Sindy's groovy coat and dress ensemble. A fabulous creation in a soft wool fabric, featuring a red sleeveless mini dress with round cut neck, and red and white checked attatched 'belt', over this Sindy wears her red and white checked mini coat, with collar and lapels to match her dress, and an attatched red pvc belt with shiny 'gold' buckle. Sindy has a matching shoulder bag in the same shiny red pvc as her belt, and wears chunky white knee high kinky boots ! Just stunning !
1972 saw 'Midi Winter' transformed from the style book prototype to this gorgeous rich red, soft brushed cotton coat with thick black 'fur' trim around the neck, down the front edgings, around the hem, cuffs, and even on the matching cossak style hat. Sindy also carried a fur muff, and wore white chunky knee length boots. An extremley fashionable look at the time, and a fairly rare outft for todays collector in anywhere near good condition, as the fabric is quite delicate. Thankfully, this one is in lovely condition. A BIG Thank you to Cammy for this.
Sindy's 1973's 'Cosy Coat',is one of those 'of it's time' outfits, this inky blue textured PVC knee length coat trimmed in pure snow white fake fur with cosy attatched hood , is just the thing for those snowy winter days. Sindy carries her 'Quant' style white PVC shoulder bag ( the flower was added by me as the original was lost, but it is in the same style) and wears knee high chunky white boots. A highly collectable and desirable Sindy outfit, she looks the height of high fashion in it.
No new coats for Sindy in 1974...poor Sindy.
In 1975 Pedigree made up for not giving Sindy a new coat in 1974, by introducing this wonderful creation in soft brushed cotton, 'Checky Coat', what a great name eh. In trendy mustard yellow, donkey brown and black check, with matching tie belt, collar and lapel detail and a groovy hat of mustard yellow with trim to match her coat. Sindy wore her chunky knee high boots once again, this time in yellow to match her coat. This outfit also came with a white satin neck scarf and a textured pvc shoulder bag. A really fun outfit. This was also avilable in red and black check.
1975's 'Snug Winter (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not sure on this one !?) made sure Sindy would definatley be seen at night, this one looks like it comes with it's own batteries ! A very bright, Flourescent orange amd deep blue check was used to make this simple thick nylon mini coat with tie belt and collar and lapel detail. This has been seen in other variations, including a pale pink. Another one of those 'of there time' outfits and one which is very funky and fun.
Released in 1976 was 'Summer Showers', rather an odd one I think, as this rain coat is made of thick cotton backed PVC, Sindy better hope it's not a hot summer. This has a distinct home made feel to it, and if it wasn't for the label, I really would have thought it was. Along with Sindy's matching coat and hat came a pair of white knee length boots and a neck scarf (I haven't got this item) this coat was sure to keep out the showers, and keep Sindy looking the fashion concious young lady about town.
'About Town' was more the summer coat Sindy needed for 1976. Made in a thick nylon type fabric in the most beautiful shades of sky and cornflower blue check. It had a large collar and lapels and a 'gold' buckled belt allowing the 'A' line styling to flow very stylishly to just above the knee. With this, Sindy wore white bow front shoes. Blue always suits Sindy, but this is extra special as it seems to have been made to match Sindy's eye's exactly, really beautiful.
'Feeling Frosty' was Sindy's winter coat for 1976, and what an outfit this one was !. Keeping to the cotton backed pvc theme, this time in rich chocolate brown, cut straight down and to midi length, with a gold buckled matching belt, Sindy looked stunning. To make this coat even more yummy, Pedigree added soft white fur to the top front on the bodice and deep cuffs, and topped it all off with a gorgeous cosak style hat. Sindy wore her new, white slim fitting knee high boots with heel , and carried a pvc shoulder bag to match her coat.
In the autumn and winter months, when Sindy is 'Out Of Town', she wears her 'Sheepskin' three quarter length coat. Made in brown suedette with trimmings in cream faux sheeps wool. Sindy wears cream lightweight cotton flared trousers and brown crown/tassle front shoes and looks every inch the country lady. I see this outfit as the 'update' of her first 'Country Walks' outfit, even down to using suedette for the 'jacket', just updated for the late 70s fashion market. A very popular outfit with collectors as it's such a brilliant miniaturised version of the real thing.
'Around Town' was 1978 offering, another ultra fashionable coat, this time in thick rich red cotton corduroy, with collar and lapel detail and simple tie belt, cut above the knee and worn with brown 'tassel' front court shoes, a very smart and trendy coat for those Saturday morning shopping trips. This coat really sets off Sindys beautiful titian hair, and her hair sets off the rich colour of the coat, a perfect match ! This coat also came with a red and white patterned neck scarf.
'April Showers' is the perfect rain mac for keeping dry and looking smart, in a light polyester mix with a slight sheen, this is sure to shrug off those raindrops while Sindy shops for her spring wardrobe. Another timeless trench coat design in inky blue/black with simple tie belt and floppy brimmed hat, Sindy also wears white knee high boots, this outfit also comes with a white shoulder bag.
Keeping with inky blue, another rain 'mac' and another 'of it's time' style, the long 'Maxi' mac ' Rainy Day's'. Almost down to the ankles and covering most of Sindy's fashionable red knee high rain boots which match her brush nylon fringed scarf. This very smart and fashionable mac had a 'gold' buckle belt and attatched hood lined in very patriotic red, white and blue stripes, matching her cuffs and trim on her shoulder bag. This coat may have been her only coat in 1979, but it definatley sets Sindy out as the VERY trendy girl about town.
1980's 'Autumn Leaves' is the classic trench coat. This one stands the test of time, in camel brushed cotton with chocolate stitch detail, matching the chocolate brown knee high boots. Sindy wears a matching hat and a checked scarf, a simple tie belt cinches in her tiny waist and allows the coat to gently flare out, very stylish. The perfect outfit for those crisp autumn walks in the country side, maybe with her red setter.
'Now listen very carfully, I shall say this only once'..1981's 'Stormy Weather' was straight out of France ! Except that it was released a full year before the BBC's 'Allo Allo' series in 1982 ! What a coincidence though eh !
Sindy's French inspired Trench Coat with very smart matching beret all in a rather yummy shade of green, was tailored in cotton, with great attention to detail. It had collar and lapels, four minute green buttons, a tie belt, and sewn on cuff 'belts'. Sindy wore a crisp yellow cotton triangular scarf around her neck, and her brown knee high boots. It really goes to show that the classic fashions, never go out of fashion. It would still look good today. I bought this outfit mint in pack.
What a year 1982 was, not only did Sindy get two rain outfits.....one for the summer ! ...and one for the spring....but also, released this year was 'Rain and Shine' Sindy..A basic body Sindy with a great play value outfit consisting of a really rich yolk yellow strapless cotton sun dress, sprinkled with deep blue, white and golden flowers, a bolero jacket matched, and was trimmed around the edges and sleeves with royal blue crisp nylon. When the Heavens opened, Sindy slipped on her royal blue hooded mac in crisp nylon, the same as used to edge her bolero, a belt cinched in her trim waist and an umbrella matched, with black lace trim at the top for extra 'glamour' ! A lovely Sindy and a fun outfit that is often overlooked by collectors, but is worthy of a place in anyones collection.
Did it really rain that much in 1982 ?! Here's 'April Showers', another classic trench coat, this time in a lovely grey cotton drill, with tie belt. Lots of lovely detail on this one, a 'flap' on the left hand shoulder, cuff 'belts', and tiny double breasted buttons. Sindy's white, burgundy and navy check scarf threads through epulets at the shoulder, so the wind won't blow it away, and a floppy brimmed hat matches her coat, with the inside of the brim matching her scarf. Great detail and styling. Sindy wears her knee high slim fit boots, and carries a deep brown cordoury shoulder bag for her shopping trip.
'Summer Showers' next ! In lightweight soft PVC in a pretty shade of candy pink. A straight cut coat with attatched hood and tie belt keeps Sindy bone dry and yet all pretty in pink. Sindy wears white knee high boots and carries a cotton backed PVC shopping bag in deep navy sprigged with pretty cornflower, dusky and pale pink flowers, the bag has two pink cotton 'braid' handles. Such a cute outfit, and who remembers these 'pak-a-macs' from way back then ? Usually purcased at the souvenir type shops dotted thought every holiday resort in the UK, and bought on one of those rainy holiday days.
No new coats issued in 1983.....
We once again find ourselves in the trenches with 1984's offering, 'Rainy Day's'...I sometimes think that Pedigree didn't get the naming of some outfits right, and this is one of them, if it wasn't for the binoculars, I would be happy with that name, but by adding them, surley a more appropriate name would have been, 'Day at the Races' ? Anyway...wrong name or not, this is a fantastic outfit, as were all outfits produced in 1984. The detailing is exeptional. A crisp fawn cotton Trench coat dripping in lovely detail, like the tiny matching buttons, neat belt with 'gold' buckle, smart collar and lapels and 'belted' cuffs, this outfit oooozed style. Sindy wore a hat to match, trimmed on the inside of the brim with soft brushed cotton in rich autumnal colours, a band around the hat also matched this, as did a shawl, which Sindy wore stylishly, and very fashionably, over her shoulders, tucking the ends though her belt, a very fashionable look at the time and a great way to 'soften' the look of a trench coat. On her feet Sindy wore brown knee length boots and she carried, as already mentioned, a pair of black binoculars. What a great play value outfit for children, just add some Sindy horses and riding outfits and Sindy can have her day at the races.
The 'One' that got away..........
This textured PVC maxi mac is believed to be 'Outdoor Girl' an 'outfit' that centre part Sindy was released in, I know no more than this about this one. It has a collar, sewn on belt, and three large plastic popper fastening at the front, Sindy apparently wore red knee high boots with this, the same as 'Shopping In The Rain', the fabric is the same as the texured PVC Patch outfit 'Sou'wester', Pauls 'Ship Ahoy' and Sindy's 'Sailaway'.
The Caped Crusader
As well as coats, Sindy also had capes, in fact one of her first eight seperates was a cape, designed by Tuffin and Foale. So here are sindy's capes.
Sindy wore 'Autumn Days' in 1977. A beautiful pale blue cape in a textured cotton with white flecks woven through it. The detail for such a simple design was lovely, two seams ran down the front, picked out in white stitch detail, and parted at the waist for Sindy to put her hands though, the cape also had a smart little collar. Sindy wore a matching brimmed hat with sunny yellow ribbon hat band and the same ribbon was used for a cravat for her to wear. Sindy matched yellow tassle/crown front shoes with this. A lovely and much overlooked Sindy fashion.
Sindy enjoyed snuggly warm walks on 'Autumn Days' in 1983, wearing her beautiful chocolate brown wool cape and matching hat, this material is just exquisite. A lovely design feature of this cape is the attatched scarf in brown and biege wool, the same material also lining the inside brim of her hat. Sindy wears brown knee high boots to match . This really is a surprise of an outfit if you've never seen it in 'real life' before, the tailoring and material is just gorgeous.
