For my Queens Guide Award i have to develop or start a new skill. So i decided i would look at website designing. So I have designed this website for the Luton Rangers.
I need to spend 60hours on here and learning about website design over a period of 12months.
i had seen that other ranger units had piczo sites so thought it might be a good idea to start one. i looked into a bit further and then found out it was free. i checked it all out with the Division Commissioner and she gave the go ahead. so i started to play around with layouts and designs. i found a website on the piczo pro's of all different type faces http://www.piczo.com/Vibeke-Text i used one of the fonts off here for all the titles of the pages. everything else i used trebuchet ms as this is the guiding font.
added a few new pages to the site today ... such as our programme and about us, i also added a want to be a ranger page in hope that we might get some new girls. i think i need some ideas of advertising this website though so i am going to think about that.
we have got the senior section 90th birthday party on sunday, so i have come up with the idea of doin a little flyer and handing this out there, see if that will advertise the website ... i am also going to e-mail people in the division.
i haven't been on here for a while so thought i would write a little update. i wrote out to people in the county who i thought would be interested, i think this helped and people have said they have been checking the site. i will update again soon.
it looks a bit like i haven't done anything for a while - but i have - brownies honour i have! i've been playing with pages, updating the news, looking at other websites for ideas and generally keeping up to date. but my mission was how i could get the girls to actully look on the website. so i put some games on the rangers only page to keep them entertained.
wow i have done alot over the past few days, given every page its own cursor, also updated the homepage a little, new pictures have been added. also have had a brownie group emailing me for tips on how to design the website such as seperate picture pages which i am quite pleased about :D
Today i have done 2 new pages one called who are we? and the other Right Here, Right Now. I decided to do these pages as some people had said to me about putting photographs of the girls individually on the site like a rouges gallery, with the right here right now page, we are working on this publication as a unit so i thought if i added a page i could let other people know what sort of things we are doing to gain the badges. Also i have copyrighted our pages so people cant take our pictures as the girls didn't want there pictures on other peoples sites. I updated Ranger Bears page as he is going off to the World Scout Jamboree and thought it would be nice that he shared his adventure with his 'fans'. At the moment overall i am very pleased with how the website is going, it is also proving to be popular with the girls now aswell since i put the games on the Rangers Only Page.
I have now put a drop down menu on each page. I thought this might be easier than having to go back to the homepage each time, it also looks much better than a page list.
Have added a lot of new pages over the past few days, especially on the members only page. Have also added a right here right now page as we are working on that scheme this term. I have also added a fundraising page as we are starting to do alot of fundraising.
i haven't wrote on here in a while. i have been enjoying the sun ... lol... although i have added some new pages. Photos have been uploaded, and also i have been doing alot of work on the Rangers Only Page. I have some great ideas for this page! will keep you posted. the Website has now had 900 visits which is excellent so thanks for your support everyone!
I feel it is time for a change on this website. I have now added a blog to this page. i am hoping this will encourage me to update this page more with recent update and how i am feeling about the site. We have now had 3052 visit. with the pictures page being most popular, rangers only page is second most popular and ranger bears page is the 3rd most popular.
I am currently in the middle of planning a trip to Bournemouth and Brownsea Island for my QG exploration. which i am very excited about. the purpose of my trip will be to research find out/learn about the history of guiding and produce a documentry on this.
Well as the Senior Section has now moved into the 21st centuary and is now on CD i think this website needs an update.
