Day 1
The Coach left Huntingdon at 8.45am it was a very early start for us on this morning.
Lemar Headlines UK Contingent Party!
The multi award winning artist Lemar was the surprise headline at the UK Contingent Party
The vocalists’ awards include two Brits and three MOBOs wowed the 4600 revellers as rain refused to dampen the spirit of their opening night.

A heavy shower in the afternoon had threatened to put the skids under the star studded line up but despite a slight rain delay the concert went ahead as planned.

Opened by UK Chief Scout Peter Duncan and hosted by him and children’s television presenter Anne Foy they introduced five acts including a DJ session by Radio One chart show host JK.

Other acts on the night included Marlo, a tribute band who helped get the party started before a superb display of dancing by Extreme Tap, better known as for being part of the BBC One idents between programmes.

UK Contingent leader Gordon Weston told the party goers they should prepare for the adventure of a lifetime and urged them to meet the world over the next two weeks.

With 12% of the UK Contingent made up with Guides, the Chief Guide, Liz Burnley made an appearance before another surprise band appeared on stage – Liberty X. The band, who recently won an Ivor Novello award for their song writing, played for 30 minutes including their number one single Just a Little.

But it was Lemar that stole the show, the 27 year old got his career off to a fantastic start after appearing on the BBC1 talent show Fame Academy and like everyone concerned, he was keen to encourage every participant to enjoy their next two weeks.
Day 2
The Rest of the World Arrive on Site
Day 3
Prince William attends Jamboree opening
The Royal Visit was a huge success with Prince William and the Duke of Kent having visited the many Jamboree attractions, including the Global Development Boulevard and the World Scout Centre.

The Royal party were escorted by UK Participants, Katie Carter and Alastair Frankel, and were able to experience the Jamboree's unique atmosphere first-hand.

They spent time in the Faith and Beliefs Zones, and enjoyed meeting Troops in their sub camps before they arrived in the Main Arena for the opening ceremony to a very warm welcome.

More than 100 members of the Media followed Prince William on his visit which was the highlight of the opening ceremony.

The Prince took his place in the Royal Box to watch the party unfold and the 21st World Scout Jamboree was underway!

Day 4
Christinas' Starburst project was at a Scout centre helping to clear undergrowth, trees and weeds at Cherry Wood Campsite to make/restore a bridal path for horses to use.
Day 5
Global Development Village
Scouts will take part in interactive workshops run by external organisations, National Scout Organizations and the International Service Team. The GDV links with the other areas of Global Development around the site to help Participants and Leaders understand the big issues that unite us all as the world gets smaller.

Choice time
All participants will get three ½ day sessions for Choice Time where they can choose what they want to do. This could be spent on Sub Camps, or exploring one of these Programme areas.
Day 6
Splash is split into 10 sections and carried out on Alton Water away from the main jamboree site. Christina was given 'large dinghy sailing' as her Splash activity.
Day 7
A Very Special Guest
Then upon the stage walked Lord Baden-Powell, the grandson of founder BP. To a hushed audience he said: "I am very happy to be here. My grandfather started the movement with 20 boys on a camp at Brownsea Island. One hundred years later 28 million people in 158 countries are involved in Scouting across the world.

"The movement he started has become one of the instruments for peace. He would have been delighted to see how the seed he planted has grown into such a movement.

"Thank you for inviting me to this unique event and in the words of my grandfather 'have a happy life and good camping'."

Rohan Puthran, 15, from Singapore said: "It was definately very emotional and bonds everyone together. The ceremony was the best way to mark the occassion."
Day 8
Terraville
There will be two seperate World Villages - AquaVille and TerraVille, and each will contain two zones. Each participant will spend one day in each World Village, taking part as a Sub Camp. After visiting the World Villages, participants will:

have a greater understanding of the different cultures around the World.
have a greater understanding of the different countries and regions that make up the World.
have a greater understanding of the issues facing the World today.
be able to see the similarities between people from all over the World.

Day 13
The Closing Ceremony
The time that all of have been dreading this week has finally come... tomorrow all the sub camps are taken down as troops from around the world return to where they came from, back to the ‘real’ world.

The last two weeks have been filled with sunshine (mostly), friendship and once in a lifetime experiences. All those here can walk away saying not only have been at the 21st World Scout Jamboree, but they saw Scouting’s Sunrise creating a new chapter in Scouting’s history.

As evening fell everyone gathered in the arena for the last party of the Jamboree, the closing ceremony. Expectations running high, tissues at the ready, preparing for the eventful and heart-melting ceremony that had to happen eventually.

As with all the other ceremonies throughout the Jamboree, we were not disappointed. The show was a riot of colour, music and plenty of reminiscence of the last ten days. The highlight had to be with the final rendition of ‘Jambo’, where literally everybody in the 40,000 strong crowd sang along with the cast and the ‘Adventure’.

But don’t worry. This is not goodbye! There is always Sweden in 2011, many of the friends made here will be there too, whether as participants again, for those that are lucky to still be young enough, or as members of the service team, for those who just never grow up!
